Modelling - Consumer

The energy usage of households will change dramatically in the next decades. How smart is our electricity grid? And how can EV users help optimize our EV charging infrastructure?

My research
Flexibility in energy usage: to avoid local grid congestion, it should be possible to ‘trade’ in energy and local network capacity to avoid local grid congestion. The challenge is that the energy market is a national wide market whereas the congestion challenge is a relatively small local problem. How can these two markets be integrated? Is integration the best or a more complex solution?

My next step
Quantification of the challenges for the low voltage network with the growing load of electric vehicles.

With whom?
ElaadNL, Enexis, Universiteit Twente.

How does my research contribute to the optimization of charging infrastructure development and utilization?
My research will contribute to the (business) rules needed to trade flexibility in energy and capacity.

My research
What are the charging, driving and electricity grid dynamics of an EV rich neighborhood in 10 or 20 years? Modellers, grid operators, municipalities and market parties teamed up to explore that question with a realistic and adaptive simulation model.

My next step
Applying the model to real Dutch neighborhoods. Defining focussed policies and charging/electricity infrastructure strategies

With whom?
NKL, TU/e, Over Morgen, HvA, ElaadNL en drie gemeenten.

How does my research contribute to the optimization of charging infrastructure development and utilization?
By simulating EV charging scenarios and their impact on real electricity grids with customisable policy and technology roadmaps.

My research
Outlook on the long term development of electric mobility and charging infrastructure and the underlying drivers.

My next step
To gain increased understanding of the needs and wishes of (future) electric vehicle owners to help shape charging infrastructure in the most efficient way.

With whom?
Broad set of stakeholders, primarily CPOs and EV users.

How does my research contribute to the optimization of charging infrastructure development and utilization?
It shows the need for increased charging infrastructure to facilitate the uptake of electric vehicles. The results were used as input for the vision on charging infrastructure of the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

Our research
In order to prove that driving an electric car is convenient, we need to focus on the consumer and charging infrastructure.

Our next step
Serious commitment to electric mobility. We are the future generation EV-drivers. Early adopters become an early majority.

With whom?
Policy makers, infrastructure companies, EV-manufacturers.

How does our research contribute to the optimization of charging infrastructure development and utilization?
Adding a different perspective in order to prevent problems and drawbacks.

My research
Adoption of e-taxi’s in Amsterdam. The priority incentive stimulates some taxi drivers to switch to EVs, but the majority remains undecided.

My next step
To undertake further research so we can fully understand the reasoning of taxi drivers with regard to EV adoption and to explore the different incentives that ought to facilitate a clean choice.

With whom?
We will work closely with the municipality of Amsterdam.

How does my research contribute to the optimization of charging infrastructure development and utilization?
A growing electric taxi fleet will also mean a growing demand for (fast)chargers, which might mean that the existing charging infrastructure requires expansion.

A report of the research results will be published on the website of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. Contact me.

My research
Describing the Dutch EV-users based on their socio-demographics, opinions, and preferences regarding EV charging infra. and technologies.

My next step
Update and enhance the questionnaire and send it to a larger group of Dutch EV-users.

With whom?
Very simple: we need the contact details of a wider group EV-users. E-mobility services providers and car leasing companies could help us with it.

How does my research contribute to the optimization of charging infrastructure development and utilization?
From the survey results we can map what the EV-users think about the EV charging infrastructure and what their preferences are regarding the infrastructure. Research result could potentially be used as extra information in case of future roll-out of the charging infrastructure.
